Marc S. Makholm, Esquire

I graduated from the University of Florida, in 1992, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science with a Minor in Criminology.  Before attending law school, I completed the Basic Recruit Course for Corrections Officers at the Southwest Florida Criminal Justice Academy.  While enrolled in this law enforcement training, I was selected as the class spokesman and gave the commencement speech for the 54th Basic C.O. graduating class.

I went on to law school at Stetson University College of Law and received my Juris Doctor in 1996.  While in law school, I focused on criminal law and procedure courses with an emphasis on trial advocacy.  Before graduation, as part of my courtroom training, I worked as a Certified Legal Intern for the State Attorney's Office in Tampa, Florida.

After graduating from the Stetson University College of Law, I began working as an Assistant State Attorney in the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit (Tampa, Florida).  I began in the Misdemeanor division, where I was in trial almost every week for more than a year.  Soon thereafter, I was promoted to handle Felony cases, where I handled general felonies (grand theft, Robbery, Murder, et al.).  After handling Felony cases for a little over a year, I was promoted to the level of Lead Trial Attorney in the Narcotics Unit.  While working in this drug division, I handled hundreds of serious drug trafficking cases and was in trial on a weekly basis prosecuting cases like Drug Trafficking, Possessions, Deliveries, Career Criminal Enterprises and RICO violations.  Additionally, I supervised a Wire Tap Investigation from inception to final prosecution and aided law enforcement in seizing criminal assets.  After nearly four years as a Prosecutor, I handled over 15,000 cases.

In 2000, I left the State Attorney's Office for private practice and worked in a large criminal defense firm for three years.  In 2003, I opened my own law firm, Marc Makholm P.A., where I have helped hundreds of clients resolve their matters.

Finally, during my career as an attorney, I have been a guest lecturer at the State Attorney's Office, The Florida Highway Patrol, The Tampa Police Department, The Plant City Police Department and The Hillsborough County  Sheriff’s Office on various topics.

Effective April 1, 2011:  Marc S. Makholm, Esq. commenced full-time employment as Staff Counsel for the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, Tampa, FL and can be reached at that Agency.  As of that date, Marc Makholm is no longer affiliated with The Makholm Law Group.
